International Lifestyle and Personal Development Practitioners' Forum

International Lifestyle and Personal Development Practitioners' Forum (the forum)

The Forum, set up in December 2018, is a regular get-together of Lifestyle, Welbeing and Personal Development practitioners working in sport. It provides opportunities for learning, sharing practice, and continually skill improvement. The sessions are usually held virtually via MS Teams, with one or two in-person gatherings each year. More than 300 people have expressed an interest in the group, with 175 practitioners from different universities, professional clubs, institutes of sport and other related organisations attending our virtual forums.

The group is open to anyone interested in supporting high performance athletes and learning more about lifestyle and personal development support. The group currently includes individuals working in universities, institutes of sport, professional sports clubs and player associations, as well as those working towards the APDL qualification. The forum is free to attend; we only ask that you are willing to share your knowledge, experience and thoughts with the rest of the group and be an active part of discussions. If you would like to find out more or would like to join the group, please contact
Elizabeth.

Tuesday 13 January 2026, 9:00-10:00am: January coffee morning - COMPLETED

Joel Clifton will introduce that Hero's Journey (Joseph Campbell), before we discuss how it might apply to our work.

Wednesday 18 February 2026, 9:00-11:00am: Forum 49: Coaching with Pictures  - COMPLETED
This sessions will introduce some methods of working with pictures online, with plenty of time for real-life practice.

Wednesday 15 April, 9:15-10:30am: April Coffee Morning
We'll have no theme for this; just an informal conversation about whatever is on your mind as well as an opportunity to welcome some new members to the group.

Wednesday 29th April, 9-11am: Forum 50: Transition from University of life
We spent much time thinking about how we support athletes as they're transitioning into university and how we support them as they transition out of sport, but how much time and energy is spent supporting the often-daunting transition from university into life after university? In this session, we'll discuss some of the challenges, what support at this stage might look like, and how we might play a role, irrespective of the context in which we work.

Tuesday 12th May, 9:30am-4:30pm: Forum 51: In-person day at University of East London
The theme of this day is "My Brand of Support". Practitioners of all experience levels will have the opportunity to reflect on where they are with their practice, what the key characteristics of their delivery is, what their philosophy and/or mission is. We'll use a variety of tools to explore where we're at, and draw on some theory. But most of all, this will be an opportunity to connect with other practitioners in the flesh!
